Review & Comparison Policy
How we compare planted aquarium gear and the boundaries of our published evidence.
Evidence Mode: Specification Research
Scaper Datum produces specification-based hardware analyses. We do not conduct empirical laboratory bench tests, destructive metallurgical trials, or long-term plant growth trials. Evaluations reflect systematic auditing of seller claims, mechanical dimensions, and published interface tolerances.
Audit Scope Matrix
| Evaluation Area | What We Standardize & Compare | Limitations (What We Do Not Claim) |
|---|---|---|
| CO2 Regulators | Thread standard matching (CGA320, W21.8, G5/8), single vs dual stage designation, and solenoid voltage. | No high-pressure endurance bench testing or long-term seal degradation trials. |
| Lighting Fixtures | Stated wattage, diode spectrum claims (WRGB vs RGB), mounting bracket thickness fit, and controller specs. | No integrating sphere spectrometer tests or empirical PAR mapping in water. |
| Filters & Glassware | Outer/inner tube diameters (12/16mm, 16/22mm), skimmer mechanics, and advertised flow ratings. | No calibrated hydraulic flow head loss measurements or structural glass impact testing. |
| Aquascaping Tools | Disclosed steel grades (e.g., 420 vs 304), total length, spring tension claims, and scissor tip geometry. | No metallurgical salt-spray rust testing or empirical hardness validation. |
No Guaranteed Results
Plant growth, algae resistance, and system stability depend on parameters beyond equipment specifications, including water chemistry, substrate choice, and biological cycling. Our comparisons provide dimensional and component transparency to help buyers select appropriate fittings, not guarantees of biological success.
